Rekha Patra hails from the Sandeshkhali region in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. She came into public prominence through grassroots activism and local-level issues.
She gained recognition as one of the key faces of protests in Sandeshkhali, where women raised concerns over alleged atrocities and governance issues, bringing her into the political spotlight.
Her rising visibility led to her being fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party in electoral politics, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Basirhat, where she contested against the Trinamool Congress candidate.
Although she did not win the parliamentary election, she remained a significant political figure, particularly in the Sandeshkhali and surrounding regions, and continued her association with BJP-led campaigns. She continues to remain active in West Bengal politics.
In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, she contested from Hingalganj as the BJP candidate and secured 100,207 votes. She defeated her nearest rival by 5,421 votes, emerging successful after a closely contested race and entering the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
