Rajiv Pratap Rudy Biography

Rajiv Pratap Rudy was born on March 30, 1962, in Patna to Vishwanath Singh. He commenced his political journey in the late 1980s, aligning himself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

His foray into the national political scene began with his election to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India's Parliament, representing the Chhapra constituency in Bihar in 1996. His early success was further solidified when he was re-elected from the same constituency in 1999, marking the beginning of his impactful tenure in Indian politics.

He faced defeat in the Lok Sabha elections of 2004 and 2009. However, he bounced back in 2014 by winning the Saran constituency against Rabri Devi, the wife of Lalu Prasad Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Bihar and founder of Rashtriya Janta Dal. In the 2024 general election, he defeated Lalu Prasad’s daughter Rohini Acharya by just over 13,600 votes.

During his political career, he held significant positions in the government. He served as the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in the BJP-led NDA government during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure. Later, in Narendra Modi's government, he took charge as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Although he was removed from the cabinet in a reshuffle in 2017.

Rudy has been elected to the Lok Sabha three times and continues to represent the people of Saran. In December 2018, he was honoured with the role of a BJP national spokesperson.

His interests are diverse, spanning from environmental conservation to rural development, with a focus on wildlife, tourism, aviation, and more. He provides consultancy services in landscaping and construction, leveraging his expertise in these areas.

Outside of work, he finds joy in photography, reading, and flying. He also indulges in cruise travel and tourism. When it comes to sports, he enjoys cricket, badminton, swimming, river rafting, snorkelling, and scuba diving.
