Ramchandra Prasad Singh came to the world on the 6th of July in 1958 in Mustaffapur village, Nalanda district, Bihar, and he is the son of Ramji Singh and Kamla Devi. He completed his studies, and in the year 1983, he entered the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Uttar Pradesh Cadre, and worked in various places with different powers, then moved into politics.
In the year 2010, Singh quit the IAS, and he was immediately admitted into the Janata Dal (United) party, where he was the primary strategist and organizer for the party in Bihar and also at the national level. In the same year, he got the ticket to the Rajya Sabha, and thus he made his way into the government, where he played a prominent role in both the party and the parliament till 2022.
Singh was made the National President of the Janata Dal (United) party in the year 2020. He was in this position while being a senior leader among the party's footsoldiers. In 2021, Singh was made the Minister of Steel in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet, where he was responsible for steel policy and the like till 2022.
Singh's presidency of JD(U) came to an end in 2023, and he took a step back from leadership positions in the party that were formalized. He remained, however, a very vocal commentator and participant in the public debate on governance and the cooperation between states and the Centre.
As of 2025, RCP Singh is still a very important political figure in Bihar, and in the national political debates, he is involved in the discussions regarding policy and is also mentoring the young leaders.
