Rajesh Verma is an Indian politician. He is a Member of Parliament, representing the Sitapur seat in the Lok Sabha, the lower house. Additionally, he serves as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Backward Classes Welfare.

Rajesh Verma Biography

Rajesh Verma was born on November 6th, 1960, in Tambaur, Sitapur district, to Krishna Pal Singh and Sudha Devi.

He currently serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sitapur constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Verma's political journey began in 1999 when he contested and won the Sitapur seat, a victory he repeated in 2004. In 2009, he shifted his candidacy to the Dhaurahra constituency but lost to Jitin Prasada of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 1,84,509 votes. Initially affiliated with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for 22 years, Verma made a significant decision in 2013 by forming an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

He secured his place in the 16th Lok Sabha for a third term under the BJP ticket and went on to win the Sitapur Lok Sabha seat again in the 2019 general elections. Recognising his consistent victories in the region, the ruling party has chosen to re-nominate him to contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Sitapur seat.

Verma's interests extend beyond politics. He is particularly passionate about working for the educational upliftment of girls and weaker sections of society, alongside engaging in social service and sports. His fondness for volleyball dates back to his student days when he consistently led his team as its captain.

In addition to his political and social engagements, Verma has also served as the President of Krishna Pal Singh P.G. College in Tambaur, Sitapur, as well as the Krishna Institute of Education in Village-Sarakpur Saraiyan B.K.T., Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

On a personal note, Verma is married to Ranjana Verma, with whom he has been blessed with three children. His net worth is reported to be Rs 7,31,29,716.

  • Verma was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh as a BSP candidate, where he defeated Janardan Prasad Misra of the BJP. He served as a Member of both the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Chemicals as well as the Consultative Committee on Mines and Minerals during this term.
