R Ashoka Biography

R Ashoka is a prominent Vokkaliga community face in BJP after DV Sadanand Gowda. He was one of the Deputy Chief ministers of the state in the BJP government headed by Jagadish Shettar from 2012 to 2013. He represents the Padmanabhanagar constituency of Bangalore city in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Ashoka is regarded as one of the most influential leaders of the BJP in Bangalore city and has steered the party to historic victories in the 2010 and 2015 BBMP elections.
In 2018 Karnataka Assembly Election, R Ashoka got elected again from the Padmanabhanagara constituency. In 2019 when a year old JDS - Congress government collapsed and the BJP came into power, R Ashoka was appointed a cabinet minister of Revenue and Municipal Administration portfolios. After that, in 2023 assembly election, R Ashoka again won from Padmanabhanagar constituency by defeating INC candidate V. Raghunatha Naidu.

Early 70’s: Born and brought up in Bengaluru, Ashoka was drawn towards Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) after having graduated in Science at Vishweshwarapuram College in Bangalore where he was a Kabaddi champion. He swung into active politics by joining the Bharathiya Janatha Party. Gradually in the rungs of the ladder.

As minister, he implemented novel schemes and also streamlined the administration of the department. Also, he raided many private clinics in rural areas and tried to eliminate the menace of fake medical practitioners in the state.
Under his leadership, the transport department also came up with some advanced public transport vehicles and the issue of bus passes and concessions for deserving candidates was made easier.
