Pralhad Joshi, born on November 27, 1962, in Vijayapur, Karnataka, is an Indian industrialist turned politician.
In the early 1990s, Joshi emerged onto the political scene by spearheading a movement to raise the Tricolour flag at Idagah Maidan, also known as Kittur Rani Chennamma Maidan, in Hubli, Karnataka, from 1992 to 1994. This marked his entry into active politics, leading to his election as the president of the BJP in Dharwad district.
His political journey reached a significant milestone when he contested and won the Dharwad constituency in the 14th Lok Sabha elections in 2004, defeating the INC's B.S Patil. Joshi continued his winning streak, securing three consecutive victories from the same constituency, making him the incumbent MP of Dharwad. Notably, in the 2009 General elections, he achieved the second-highest victory margin among 28 constituencies in Karnataka.
In 2019, Joshi clinched a second term from the Dharwad seat with a remarkable margin of over one lakh votes. Following his re-election, he was appointed as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Minister of Coal, and Minister of Mines.
In the 2024 general elections, Joshi retained his seat in Dharwad, earning him a place in the Modi 3.0 cabinet.
Apart from his political endeavors, Joshi is deeply committed to serving the underprivileged. He is actively associated with projects such as the mid-day meals program for primary school children, which feeds over 86,000 children. Additionally, he has organized numerous free health and eye camps, providing essential medical care to thousands of patients.
Joshi's personal interests include Hindustani classical music, literary reading, and recreational sports like chess, badminton, and carrom.
