P Prasad, who won his first election from Cherthala, is currently the Minister of Agriculture in the second Pinarayi government.Prasad defeated Congress candidate S Sarath by a majority of 7592 votes.He is also a member of the CPI State Executive Committee, Member of the Kerala Housing Board and Convener of the CPI State Environmental Sub-Committee.
Prasad was born in 1969 Nooranad palamel in Alappuzha to G Parameswaran Nair and Gomati Amma.Prasad's father was an AITUC leader and a member of the CPI district council.Prasad entered politics through the AISF.he completed schooling from Nooranad CBM High School and did graduation in Pandalam NSS College. He graduated with a degree in mathematics. He has spent 34 days in jail for his student youth struggles.
He has also served as AISF State President, AIYF State Executive Member, CPI Pathanamthitta District Secretary, All India Adivasi Mahasabha National Executive Member and Kerala University Senate Member.In 2011, Prasad was the Additional Private Secretary to Forest Minister Binoy Vishwam. He also worked as the unit manager of Janayugam Thiruvananthapuram.
In 2021, he was appointed as Minister for Fisheries in the second Pinarayi Vijayan ministry. In this role, he oversees sustainable fisheries management, fisher welfare schemes, and coastal development programs. He has also worked to improve marketing, infrastructure, and income security for fishing communities across Kerala.
As of 2026, V. Abdurahiman continues to serve as MLA from Tanur and as Kerala’s Minister for Fisheries, actively participating in state governance and development initiatives for coastal populations.
