K. T. Jaleel was born on November 30, 1968, in Malappuram district of Kerala. He pursued higher education in Arabic and Islamic history, eventually earning a doctorate, which led to his prefix “Dr.” in public life. He began his professional career as a college lecturer before entering active politics.

He initially started his political journey with the Indian National Congress and later joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), where he held organizational responsibilities. Over time, he aligned with the Left Democratic Front and became a prominent political figure in Kerala.

Jaleel entered electoral politics and was elected as a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Thavanur constituency. He gained recognition for his administrative role and involvement in public policy, particularly in the education sector.

He served as Minister for Higher Education and Minority Welfare in the government led by Pinarayi Vijayan from 2016 to 2020. His tenure saw initiatives in higher education and minority development, though it also included political controversies that led to his resignation.

Following his resignation, he continued in politics as an Independent leader aligned with the LDF and remained active in legislative and public affairs.
