Mirza Mehboob Beg Biography

Born in District Anantnag on 4th September 1949, Dr. Mirza Mehboob Beg is a former Member of Parliament (Anantnag), Cabinet Minister in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, and a Member of the Legislative Assembly and Council. He completed his M.B.B.S. at Srinagar Medical College, Jammu and Kashmir, in 1972. In 1976, he married Nighat Beg, and they were blessed with three children.

Dr Beg has a keen interest in writing, reading, sports, and listening to music. He also enjoys watching films and listening to songs. His sports interests include cricket, badminton, chess, and carrom. Additionally, he has served as the former President of the Jammu and Kashmir Handball Association.

  • 2012 : He was a Member of the Standing Committee on Oil, Petroleum and Natural Gas. On 23rd September 2012, he became a Member of the Rules Committee. In 2012, he also served as a Member of the National Level Selection Committee for the National Awards to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.
  • 2009 : He served as a Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council from March 2009 to 22 May 2009. Subsequently, he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha. On 4th September 2009, he became a Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on 'Security Inside Parliament Complex' and on 31st August 2009, he joined the Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests. He continued to serve on this Standing Committee from 2009 to 2010. During the same period, he was a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the State Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, the Parliamentary Forum on Children, and the Parliamentary Forum on Youth. Additionally, he was a Member of the Central Working Committee and the 'Core Group' of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. He also served on the Sub-Committee on 'Implementation of the Right to Education Act' and was again a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as well as the Standing Committee on Human Resource Development. In 2009-2010, he held the positions of Chairman of the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee for Health and Family Welfare, as well as Chairman of the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee for Rural Development Programmes.
