Kristappa Nimmala was born on 25 November 1956 in Perumalla Palli, Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. He is the son of Shri Nimmala Rangappa and Smt. Nimmala Adilakshmamma. After finishing his studies in B.Com at Osmania Degree College, Kurnool, he worked as a farmer, businessman, and social worker.
He started his political career from the very bottom, first as Mandal President after winning in local body elections, and then moving up to state politics. Nimmala was voted as MLA of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1994 and 1999; he served for two terms and got the experience in regional leadership.
He became a national politician in 2009 when he was elected a Member of Parliament representing Hindupur (AP) on a Telugu Desam Party ticket. He won in a factional-violence–hit region of Rayalaseema, which has few TDP leaders. He kept the seat for 2014 and was part of many important parliamentary committees like Health and Family Welfare, Transport, Tourism and Culture, and water resources consultative panels.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he lost the Hindupur seat to Kuruva Gorantla Madhav of the YSR Congress Party, which indicates the changing electoral dynamics in the constituency.
He is married to Smt. Nimmala Varalakshmi and they have two sons. He is also credited for his involvement in social initiatives around rural employment, vocational education, and underprivileged community support.
As of 2025, Kristappa Nimmala is still actively participating in TDP organizational work and regional lobbying in Andhra Pradesh.
