Kamal Patel was born on 6 October 1961 in Harda, Madhya Pradesh, India. He obtained his public service and legislative work foundation from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, after completing his education with degrees in Commerce (B.Com) and Law (LL.B.) from that institution.
Patel started his political career with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he joined because of his student and youth organization work for both Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the BJP Yuva Morcha. His local support base in Harda and central Madhya Pradesh developed through his work at the grassroots level.
He first became an MLA through the Harda constituency election in 1993 and subsequently won assembly elections in 1998, 2003, 2008, and 2018 to serve multiple terms in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Patel has worked as a cabinet minister for the Government of Madhya Pradesh during his legislative career. He was appointed Cabinet Minister for Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development on 21 April 2020 under the Shivraj Singh Chouhan administration.
He has received district representative duties in addition to his assembly duties.
Patel participated in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly election as a candidate for Harda but lost to Congress candidate Dr. Ramkishore Dogne, who won by 870 votes, which resulted in a change of electoral results for the constituency.
As of 2026, Kamal Patel continues to be an active figure in Madhya Pradesh politics and remains involved with the BJP at the state and constituency levels.
