K. S. Alagiri came to this world on the 22nd of October, the year of 1952, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. An Arts degree was his take from Annamalai University, after which he started to climb the political ladder when he got involved in the local civic activities, even acting as the Panchayat Samithi chairman in Keerapalayam, to finally get to the party.
Alagiri, a member of the Indian National Congress at first, was indeed sent to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Chidambaram in 1991; he did so for two electoral terms as a candidate of Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) in the 1996 elections.
Congress nominated him for the Cuddalore seat in the Lok Sabha elections of 2009, where he emerged victorious with a remarkable vote share, and then he was a member of the 15th Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014. In the 2014 elections, he was a candidate for Congress again, but this time he lost because the party was unable to do well in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Alagiri took office as President of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) in February 2019, and his main task was to breathe new life into the organizational structure and election strategies of the party while working hand in hand with the alliance partners. His period witnessed the 2021 Assembly elections in which the Congress got 18 out of the 25 seats it had as the DMK-led alliance.
Alagiri didn't have a very smooth path as he faced internal challenges and sometimes even leadership disputes within the state ranks, but his voice remained loud and clear as he criticized the national policies and the state opposition narratives. He is still a key player in Tamil Nadu Congress politics in the year 2025, taking stands on federal matters and on state alliance possibilities.
