Inder Kumar Gujral served as the 12th prime minister of India from 1997 to 1998. He was born on 4 December 1919 in a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family to Avtar Narain and Pushpa Gujral.
In 1964 he joined the Indian National Congress party and became a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.
Later he was the Minister of Information and Broadcasting during and the Ambassador of India to the Soviet Union.
He also became the Minister of External Affairs and developed the Gujral doctrine in 1996. However, Gujral's tenure lasted for almost 1year
and then he retired from all political positions. In 2012, Gujral left us after facing a lung infection.
