P C Gaddigoudar gained momentum in politics when he was appointed by the then chief minister of Karnataka, Ramakrishna Hegde, in 1987 as chairman of the committee to study the reorganization of districts. He is considered instrumental in the creation of the Bagalkot district. Parvatagouda Gaddigoudar was nominated to The Legislative Council of Karnataka in 1988. However, in 1994, he couldn't secure a ticket from Janata Dal and contested the elections to the Assembly as an independent candidate from Badami. He was earlier affiliated with All India Progressive Janata Dal but severed ties during the 14th Lok Sabha elections choosing to contest with a BJP ticket. He won the 2004 general elections, and since then, he retained the seat in the Bagalkot constituency.
