E V K S Elangovan Biography

E V K S Elangovan, born into a family of social reformists in South India, was the grandson of Pesiyar E.V. Ramaswamy, a renowned social reformer, and the son of the late E.V.K. Sampath, a former Member of Parliament and Congress leader in Tamil Nadu.

He served as a Member of the Lok Sabha, representing the Gobichettipalayam constituency in Tamil Nadu, and was a prominent figure in the Indian National Congress.

Elangovan had a keen interest in car and motorbike racing, as well as the study of Indian and world history. His hobbies included watching television for news and music, reading, and playing badminton. He was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club in Chennai and actively participated in Cholavaram Chennai motorbike racing.

He was deeply involved in social work and trade union activities.

On a personal note, he married Varalakshmi Elangovan on 22 May 1975, and they had two sons.

As of 2019, his net worth was reported at Rs 23,62,41,267, and he faced 10 criminal cases.

E V K S Elangovan passed away on 14 December 2024 at a private hospital in Chennai after battling a lung-related issue for over two weeks.
