He is a cabinet minister with Independent Charge, handling the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the Department of Atomic Energy, and the Department of Space.

Additionally, he is a member of parliament, representing the Udhampur constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament.

Dr Jitendra Singh is an active Indian politician. Currently, he is the Minister with the Independent Charge for the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space.

He is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive member and was the chief spokesperson for the State of Jammu and Kashmir. He won the Udhampur seat in the Indian general election in 2019. He was re-elected from the same constituency on the BJP ticket in the 2024 general elections.

Beyond the political arena, he is a renowned physician specialising in diabetes and endocrinology, he has served as a professor, consultant, and clinical practitioner and he is the author of eight books & newspaper columnist. He authored popular books like "Monograms on Diabetes" and "Diabetes Made Easy," and contributed chapters on diabetes to postgraduate medicine textbooks. His syndicated weekly column, "Tales of Travesty," has been widely read and published for three decades.

He previously chaired the National Scientific Committee of Diabetes and the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India.
