Biman Bose Biography

Biman Bose was born on 1 July 1940 in Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal, and studied at Maulana Azad College under the University of Calcutta. From his school days, he engaged in both political and social work because he wanted to help his community through election campaigns and public outreach activities.

He joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) soon after its formation and advanced through the various levels of the party's student and youth organizations. Bose became the first All India Secretary of the Students' Federation of India in 1970 and served until 1976. He later joined the CPI(M) State Committee and the Central Committee, which allowed him to learn about party operations throughout West Bengal.

Bose became a member of the CPI(M) Politburo in 1998 and also took on the role of West Bengal Left Front Chairman, which represented a group of leftist political organizations. In 2005, he started working as State Secretary of the West Bengal CPI(M) and continued in this role until Surjya Kanta Mishra took over in 2015. He maintained his position as Left Front Chairman after he resigned from various party functions in 2015, while he also received special invitee status to the central and state committees of CPI(M) after he turned 60 in 2022.

Bose has remained active in both political work and organizational leadership throughout his eighties. The reports, which cover party activities and Left Front operations, show his participation in state-wide political events and public gatherings that focused on party election strategies and seat distribution for upcoming elections.

Biman Bose still holds the position of Left Front Chairman in West Bengal, while he stands as one of the primary representatives of the state's leftist political heritage.
