Basavaraj Somappa Bommai is an Indian politician and the current Chief Minister of Karnataka. He had started his politics with Janta Dal but later shifted to Bharatiya Janta Party. He is currently also serving as the Minister of state for Home Affairs, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislature of Karnataka. He is also the in-charge minister of Haveri District. In past, he had served as Minister for Water resources and Cooperation in the Government of Karnataka.
Basavaraj Bommai comes from a political background as he's the son of former Chief Minister of Karnataka, S. R. Bommai. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering, he started his political journey with Janta Dal and represented Dharwad constituency twice in Karnataka Vidhan Soudha as a Janta Dal MLA and also worked as the Parliament Secretary to Chief Minister.
In 2008, he shifted the side and joined Bharatiya Janta Party. He won 2008 Karnataka MLA election on a BJP ticket and appointed as the Minister for Water Resources. He has been serving as the Minister for Cooperation, Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of Home Affairs, ever since the BJP came again into power in the state before sworn in as the new Chief Minister as B S Yediyurappa stepped down from the post.
At present, CM Bommai is contesting for the impending assembly election 2023 from the Shiggaon constituency by BJP ticket.

The Karnataka legislative assembly election result is going to be declared today, prior to that, the state CM expressed his confidence about the ruling party.
Bommai also said that the opponent party will not have majority number and they are in touch with other parties, moreover, Congress has no confidence in their legislators.
