Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhary, fondly known as Nirbhaya Didi in Kolkata, is an Indian politician and social activist hailing from West Bengal, affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Born on December 14, 1928, in Kolkata, she pursued post-graduation, earning a Master of Arts from North Bengal University in 1987. Married to Mitra, she is a devoted mother of two daughters.

Her notable contributions include her involvement in the launch of the National Legal Literacy Mission in 2004 and serving as the National Advisor to the National Legal Services Authority of the Ministry of Law and Justice until 2008. Additionally, she held the presidency of the NGO Sudinalaya until 2010.

Nirbhaya Didi's activism extends to advocating for the rehabilitation of rape victims, promoting women's sanitation by advocating for accessible toilets, and leading the special task force on rape, trafficking, and violence against women established by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after the 2012 Delhi gang rape. She resigned from this position in December 2013.

Passionate about humanitarian endeavours, she has empowered 3000 villages and impacted the lives of over 5 million people through her dedicated work. In 2021, she was elected MLA from English Bazar (Maldaha) on a BJP ticket.
