Atul Bora Biography

Atul Bora was born on 7 April 1960 in Borahi Gaon, Assam’s Golaghat district. He was playing a part in the student politics of the Assam Movement, and then he got to the top of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), which was later the only way of entering into the mainstream politics.

He was officially part of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in the mid-1990s, and the same year, he was elected from the Golaghat constituency, which was the beginning of his political career in the Assam Legislative Assembly. In this capacity, he was also appointed a minister in the state government.

The gap between his periods in the Assembly came to an end when he was again elected, this time from the Bokakhat constituency in 2016. This win meant his comeback to state legislative politics. He gradually held major portfolios in the Assam Cabinet such as agriculture, horticulture, and related ones.

2014 was the year when Bora ascended to the position of the Asom Gana Parishad President, which has since been his position with the help of internal elections, thus reinforcing his presence in the regional politics and also his alliance-building.

Atul Bora remains a senior AGP leader, a state cabinet minister, and a major player in the political scene of Assam in 2026.
