Virendra Singh, the sitting MP of Badohi constituency, is the national president of BJP Kisan Morcha. He started Gaon Chalo Abhiyaan` to promote awareness among farmers and villagers especially in the field of agriculture. He was the District President, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in 1988, a role which later morphed into District President, Bharatiya Janata Party (B.J.P.) He first contested in the 1996 Lok Sabha elections from Mirzapur constituency but was thwarted by Phoolan Devi of SP. However, he won the following election in 1998 by defeating his former rival Phoolan Devi in Mirzapur constituency. The victory was short lived as he was bested again by Phoolan Devi in 1999 general elections. In 2014 he decided to contest the 16th Lok Sabha elections from Bhadohi constituency where he defeated Rakesh Dhar of BSP by a margin of 158039 votes.
