He presently serves as the MLA of Didarganj. He was a speaker of Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh under Mayawati's regime from 2007-2012. He was also a Minister in Mayawati, Kalyan Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav cabinet.
