Shankar Ghosh

Shankar Ghosh was born in West Bengal and developed his public profile through sustained civic engagement in the Siliguri region. His early involvement in public life was shaped by grassroots organisational work, which later transitioned into formal political activity under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit.

He rose to prominence in municipal politics and was elected Mayor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, a milestone that marked the BJP’s growing influence in urban local governance in North Bengal. During his mayoral tenure, his responsibilities primarily involved civic administration, infrastructure oversight, and coordination with state agencies.

Following his tenure as mayor, Ghosh contested the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections from the Siliguri constituency. Although he was unsuccessful in the 2016 Assembly election, he remained active in regional politics, party organisation, and constituency-level outreach.

In 2021, he won the Siliguri Assembly seat and entered the West Bengal Legislative Assembly as a BJP MLA. Since then, his role has focused on legislative participation, representation of urban concerns, and coordination with party leadership at the state level.

As of 2026, Shankar Ghosh remains an elected MLA, participating in legislative debates, constituency outreach, and party coordination in West Bengal.
