Dr. Sasmit Patra is a Member of the Parliament for the second consecutive time from Odisha. He is associated with the ruling Biju Janata Dal party in Odisha. Patra represents the minor Christian community, and his father - Swarupa Nand Patra, remained President of the Odisha Minority Forum.
Regarding education, he graduated with BA honors and then pursued Ph.D. in Business Management. Patra has good academic experience as a Dean at the Xavier Emlyon Business School. He has also worked on a UNDP project for a Govt of Odisha development project.
As an MP, he has pointed out issues related to socioeconomic and culture on the floors. One of the achievements in his career is as the Spokesperson of BJD, which has brought him into the limelight as a youth icon of Odisha. Patra also has experience in public policy, academia, and in governance.
As a lawyer and a media coordinator of the BJD, Patra has managed the IT and digital platforms for his party. During his previous term in the Rajya Sabha, Dr. Sasmit Patra worked as Vice-Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
