Rattan Lal Kataria is the incumbent MP of Ambala constituency in Haryana. He was elected in 13th Lok Sabha from Ambala where he defeated Phool Chand Mullana of INC by a margin of 1,24,478 votes. However, he lost two consecutive elections in Ambala in 2004 and 2009 to Selja of INC. He contested and won Ambala Lok Sabha constituency for a second consecutive term, where he defeated Selja of INC by a margin of over 200000 votes.

He was a recipient of award from first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru at Teen Murti in 1963 as a Child Artist.
He contested and won Ambala Lok Sabha constituency for a second consecutive term, where he defeated Selja of INC by a margin of over 200000 votes.
He was appointed MoS ministry of Jal Shakti; and MoS ministry of Social Justice and empowerment.
After two consecutive failures, Kataria won the 16th Lok Sabha elections by defeating Raj Kumar Balmik of INC by a margin of 3,40074 votes.
He was elected in 13th Lok Sabha from Ambala where he defeated Phool Chand Mullana of INC by a margin of 1,24,478 votes. However, he lost two consecutive elections in Ambala in 2004 and 2009 to Selja of INC.
Kataria again faced defeat in the aseembly election against SAP's Banta Ram who secured a 36% vote share.
He contested and won the assembly elections from Radaur in Haryana where he defeated Lehri singh by a margin of 20,629 votes. He lost the 1991 assembly elections and secured a 3% vote share.
