Parimal Nathwani Biography

Parimal Nathwani is a Director of Corporate Affairs at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and concurrently serves as a Member of the Rajya Sabha for the YSR Congress Party, representing the state of Andhra Pradesh.

He was elected to the upper house of the Parliament of India, the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh in 2020. This was the third time he was elected to the Rajya Sabha but on the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party ticket. Currently, he is a Member of the Committee on Rules.

Earlier, he served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha two times from Jharkhand, from 2008 to 2014, and then from 2014 to 2020, without being part of any political party.

He is the founder Chairperson and Trustee of Reliance Rural Development Trust, an NGO that has led initiatives in 5558 villages across 25 districts of Gujarat, overseeing approximately 6246 projects for rural development. Additionally, he serves as the Chairperson of the National Safety Council and the Indian Institute of Public Health in Gandhi Nagar. He is also a Trustee on the Board of the Governor's Social Welfare Fund in Gujarat, and Chancellor of Shree Bruhad Gujarat Sanskrut Parishad.

Moreover, he holds membership on various boards including the Nathdwara Temple Board, Gujarat Ayurved University Development Board, and the Board of Governors of Pandit Deendayal Energy University.

He is the President of the State Football Association of Gujarat. He used to be the Vice-President of the Gujarat Cricket Association. Additionally, he served as an Executive Member of the Lion Club of Jamnaga. Moreover, he was a dedicated Member of the Rotary Club of Jamnagar. These positions show that he is very passionate about wildlife, especially Gir Lions, the last remaining Asiatic Lions in the world. He has been working for the conservation and protection of the Gir Lions since a long time ago.

As a writer, he has published 'Meri Karmabhoom' in the Hindi and Jharkhand languages. In the English language, 'Gir Lion: Pride of Gujarat' and 'Adorable and Admirable Parimal Nathwani' have been published both in association with the Times of India.

He was born to Dhirajlal Nathwani and Pushpa Nathwani in Mumbai on 01st February 1956. He married Varsha Nathwani in 1984 and was blessed with one son. His net worth is Rs 3,96,83,96,198 which is close to Rs 396 crore.

  • 1995: A life-changing encounter occurred when he met Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani. Amidst pivotal developments for the Ambanis, including the construction of the largest greenfield refinery in Jamnagar, the daunting task of peaceful land acquisition loomed. Despite the seemingly insurmountable challenge of acquiring 10,000 acres with farmers' consent, he pressed on. His efforts bore fruit as the firm successfully acquired 10,000 acres of land, along with 400 properties owned and 1,200 leased, setting the stage for Reliance's infrastructural advancements.

Parimal Nathwani Achievements

Parimal Nathwani suggested to the Indian Government that it should adopt the Asiatic lion from the Gir forest in Gujarat as the national animal. The Government acknowledged that the Gir forest is the only place in the world where Asiatic lions can survive. In 2020, the Government of Gujarat estimated that there were 674 Asiatic lions in Gir National Park, sanctuary, and surrounding areas.
