Major Ravi

Major Ravi, born Ravi Varma, is a former officer of the Indian Army and a noted figure in Malayalam cinema. He hails from Kerala and has had a diverse career spanning the military and film industries.

He served in the Indian Army, including assignments related to security operations, before transitioning to the film industry. His military experience significantly influenced his storytelling and filmmaking style.

He gained recognition as a director and screenwriter in Malayalam cinema, particularly for films centred on military operations, counter-terrorism, and national security. His work carved a niche for realistic defence-based narratives in the industry.

Apart from directing, he has also worked as an actor and writer in several films, further expanding his role in the entertainment sector. He later became associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and has been involved in political and public activities in Kerala.

In the 2026 election, Major Ravi contested as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and lost after polling 42,476 votes. He was defeated by Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Adv. K. Premkumar, who secured a strong victory with a margin of 32,886 votes.
