Longrineken Ao Biography

Longrineken was a political leader from Nagaland who emerged in state politics through participation in regional party activities and local public life. He developed his political base in the Jangpetkong constituency, a legislative seat located in Mokokchung district. His involvement in grassroots political organisation laid the foundation for his later electoral career.

He first entered electoral politics in 2008, contesting the Nagaland Legislative Assembly election from the Jangpetkong constituency as a candidate of the Naga People’s Front (NPF). Although he did not win the election, the contest helped establish his presence in the constituency and expanded his political profile within state politics.

In 2013, Longrineken achieved his first electoral victory when he was elected as Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Jangpetkong on a Naga People’s Front ticket. This victory marked his entry into the state legislature and the beginning of his tenure as an elected representative.

During the 2018 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election, he changed political affiliation and contested from the same constituency as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He successfully retained the seat and continued serving as MLA. During this period he was also appointed as Advisor to the Nagaland Government with responsibilities related to National Highways, Treasuries and Accounts.

In the 2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly election, Longrineken contested again from Jangpetkong, this time representing the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). He did not win the election and finished with 777 votes.

He remained active in public life until his death on 7 March 2026, when he passed away due to cardiac arrest.
