Kumar Ketkar Biography

Kumar Ketkar is a politician, journalist and author. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of Dainik Divya Marathi, the Marathi-language daily of the Dainik Bhaskar Group of Newspapers. Before this, he was an editor for leading dailies such as Loksatta, Maharashtra Times, and the Lokmat Group of Newspapers.

He was born to Chintaman Balkrishna Ketkar and Vijaya Chintaman Ketkar in Pune on 7th January 1946. He married Sharada Ketkar in 1970.

He had started his journalistic career with The Economic Times. He has also worked with The Observer and the Maharashtra Times. He is known for being a harsh critic of the BJP, RSS and Shiv Sena.

He was elected to the upper house of the Indian parliament, Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra in 2018 on the Indian National Congress ticket.

As a Member of the Committee of Privileges, the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, and the Committee on External Affairs, he is deeply committed to addressing a diverse array of issues crucial to the society.

As the India coordinator for the South Asian Free Media Association's Mumbai-Karachi Forum, he fostered cross-border collaboration in media. Additionally, he is the proud founder of Granthali, a literacy movement, where he worked alongside fellow literary activists to promote the joy of reading and education in our community.

As an author, he has published the following books in the Marathi language; Jwalamukhichya Tondawar, 1980, Katha Swatantryachi, 1985, Vishwamitrache Jag, 2000, Badalte Vishwa, 2006, Trikalvedh, 2008 andOsaralele Vadal; Editor's Choice, 2005.

He is a soul full of life, he enjoys travelling abroad, reading and meeting people from various fields.
