Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, commonly known as Raja Warring, is a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress who began his political journey as a student politician.
Born to Kuldeep Singh and Malkeet Kaur in 1977, Brar lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his maternal uncles and the Sindhwani family. Initially known as Raja Sotha, after his maternal village, he later adopted the name Warring, from his paternal village.
He initially learned the ropes of politics from Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala and Jagmeet Brar, the latter of whom is now with the Shiromani Akali Dal.
Warring drew the attention and praise of close associates of Rahul Gandhi, a top Congress leader, during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections while working in Uttar Pradesh.
This recognition paved the way for Raja Warring to receive the party ticket for the Gidderbaha constituency in the 2012 Assembly elections. He faced a formidable opponent in Manpreet Singh Badal, who had founded his own party. At that time, former Congress Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh preferred Raghubir Pardhan as the candidate from Gidderbaha. Additionally, Warring's political mentor, Jagmeet Brar, did not support his candidacy. However, with the backing and campaign support of Rahul Gandhi, Warring managed to defeat Manpreet Singh Badal by a significant margin.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, Raja Warring once again won the Gidderbaha seat comfortably. Despite his electoral success, he was not included in the Cabinet under Capt Amarinder Singh, as he did not share a close relationship with the then Chief Minister. This exclusion was a significant setback for Warring, especially after his notable victory over Manpreet.
The situation changed when the Congress leadership replaced Capt Amarinder Singh with Charanjit Singh Channi as Chief Minister in September 2021. Following this leadership change, Raja Warring was appointed as the Transport Minister in the new Cabinet, marking his entry into a significant ministerial role.
On a personal front, he married Amrita J. Singh and is blessed with two children with her. His net worth stands at Rs. 17,72,43,256.
