She has been a major draw in Bollywood and has won several National Film Awards along with a Padma Shri. In 2024, after a triumphant run in films which started with Gangster, she made a clean break with politics.

Kangana Ranaut Biography

Kangana Ranaut, born on March 23, 1987, hails from Bhambla, near Manali, in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district. Her father, Amardeep, is a businessman, while her mother, Asha, works as a schoolteacher. Coming from a Rajput family, Kangana's lineage includes a grandfather who served as an IAS Officer.

Her formative years were spent in Dehra Dun, where she attended DAV's High School. During her schooling, Kangana actively participated in debates, elocutions, and basketball games. After completing her schooling, she pursued higher education at Science College in Simla.

Kangana's journey into the entertainment industry began with modelling and theatre in Delhi, where she was associated with the Smita Theater Group under Arvind Gaur. Alongside, she honed her skills as a Kathak dancer.

In 2005, Kangana made the bold move to Bombay, settling in a flat on Yari Road, Versova. Her breakthrough came when filmmaker Anurag Basu discovered her in a cafe and cast her in the lead role of Gangster (2006). Despite initial criticism, the film's success catapulted Kangana into the limelight, earning her the Filmfare award for Best Female Debut.

Subsequently, Kangana ventured into diverse roles, including a negative character in the sci-fi film Krrish-3 (2013), which became one of the highest-grossing Indian movies. Despite facing setbacks and criticism, Kangana's career flourished as she portrayed memorable characters, earning her the moniker "Bollywood Queen."

In 2020, Kangana established her own production house, Manikarnika Films, and ventured into directing with her debut film, Emergency. Known for her portrayal of strong, female-centric roles, Kangana Ranaut is also recognised for her outspokenness on social and political issues. She openly supports the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and entered politics officially, contesting the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general elections.
