Kunnummal Surendran, born on the 10th of March 1970, is a politician, originally a native of the Kozhikode district. He pursued his B.Sc. (Chemistry) at Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College, and then he started his career in politics. Surendran's political life began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is the student wing of the RSS, and later he was involved in the activities of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
He gradually became the face and voice of the Kerala BJP through a series of organisational positions he held over the years, including being State General Secretary. He actively participated in public movements, and his role as a leader became very significant, especially during the temple entry agitation for women of all ages in Sabarimala; he was even imprisoned for 22 days in connection with the protest.
Surendran was nominated as the BJP candidate for the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 and contested the national election, but lost. Nevertheless, under his leadership, the BJP in the state opted for brazen campaigning, thus seeking to establish a foothold in Kerala’s political landscape, even amidst unfavourable conditions for the party.
In February 2020, Surendran was named the State President of the BJP in Kerala, where he was the driving force behind the organisational strategy and election planning until March 2025. He not only led single campaigns but also multiple, both local and national issues, with the main areas of concentration being development, law and order, and social issues.
By 2025, he is still a prominent player in the BJP in Kerala, and his involvement is still in election strategies and public relations, although the party decides on his young candidates.
