Hemangi Sakhi, born in Baroda, Gujarat, relocated to Mumbai due to her father's involvement as a film distributor, particularly working with Raj Kapoor. She briefly attended a convent school but had to leave following the passing of her parents.
To support herself, she ventured into acting, appearing in films such as "Shabanam Mausi," "Down Town," and "Third Man." Additionally, she showcased her talents on television shows like "X Yor X" on V channel and "Zindagi Life Show" on IBN 7 channel.
However, her life took a spiritual turn towards the worship of Lord Krishna. She has shared the story of Bhagwat Katha in various locations such as Bangkok, Singapore, and Mauritius.
Inspired by the ISKCON temple near her Mumbai residence, she immersed herself in studying scriptures and received initiation from a Guru, eventually becoming Mahamandaleshwar Hemangi Sakhi Maa, the world's first transgender Bhagvat Katha wachak.
In a bold move, Hemangi Sakhi announced her candidacy for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Varanasi constituency. Her decision stems from her dedication to advocating for the rights and respect of the transgender community.
