An Ayurvedic doctor by profession, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh began his political career in the youth wing of Jana Sangh. He holds various positions in Kawardha municipality, Chhattisgarh Assembly and the Parliament of India. He is former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh state. He was the Member of Parliament in 1999 and served as Minister of State of Commerce. He also led the country in the Indian Trade Fair in Israel, Nepal, Palestine and Dubai.
He established 'Bharat Mata Chikitsalya' which provides free medical aid.
He has special interest in cricket and volleyball. He is the Patron of Youth Club in Kawardha.
