Dr M. Mathiventhan was born on 25 December 1984 in Tamil Nadu. He holds MBBS and MD degrees in general medicine, having studied at Annamalai University, and practised as a medical doctor in Rasipuram before entering politics. He is married to Dr Sivaranjini, and the couple have one daughter. His father is Mayavan.
In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Mathiventhan contested from the Rasipuram (SC) constituency as a DMK candidate and defeated former minister V. Saroja, securing his first legislative term. His victory marked his transition from medicine to active public service.
Following his election in 2021, he was appointed Minister for Tourism Development in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, where he engaged in initiatives to boost tourism and related state development programs.
In a December 2022 cabinet reshuffle, Mathiventhan was re-assigned as Minister for Forests, taking on responsibility for forest conservation, environmental policy, and related initiatives within the state government.
As of 2026, he continues in this ministerial role, working on eco-tourism projects and forest conservation schemes.
