Dr Harsh Vardhan is an Indian Politician. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). He has represented Chandni Chowk in Delhi as a Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok Sabha. But the BJP has denied him the ticket to contest elections from Chandni Chowk for the 18th general elections. Following this, he decided to quit politics and to return to his previous profession that is to work as an ENT specialist.

He was given the charge of the Union Health Ministry as his interest lies in activities pertaining to the field of health at national and international level particularly polio eradication, tobacco control, essential drug policy, organ donation, etc.

He was also the Chief Minister of Delhi candidate for the BJP in the 2013 Delhi assembly election. He was first elected in 1993 as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi from Krishna Nagar Vidhan Sabha.

Dr Harsh Vardhan was born on 13 December 1954 in Delhi. He married Nutan on 26 Feb 1982. They have two sons and a daughter.

Dr Harsh Vardhan has been a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist since his childhood, which gradually saw his greater participation in politics. He is actively associated with many social and professional organisations.

Additionally, he is acclaimed as an author, penning the insightful book "A Tale of Two Drops." Apart from this, his several articles were published in scientific journals of Otolaryngology and he regularly writes articles on subjects of health and national interest in various newspapers.

In his free time, he listens to music, watches films and does social work. He is also interested in cricket, lawn tennis and sports in general in a big way.

Served as Advisor to World Health Organization for many years and was a member of many international technical committees. Received the 'IMA President's Special Award of Appreciation' in 1994. In 1995, he successfully launched the Pulse Polio Programme nationwide leading to 88 million children being immunized. Because os his efforts, India was declared polio-free by the WHO in 2014.

Nominated as Fellow of the International Institute of Polypathy in Milan, Italy, in the year 1996. Director-General's Polio Eradication Champion Award Commendation Medal by the World Health Organization in 1998. Also Polio Eradication Champion Award by the Rotary International in 2001.

In January 2001, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee honoured him with the Polio Eradication Champion Award. He was honoured in February 2002 at the Polio Plus International Presidential Summit.

The Rotary club of Delhi Uptown honoured him with the Vocational Excellence Award. The "Best Professional" award was given to him by the Ghalib Academy of New Delhi in April 2008.
