Mohanbhai Sanjibhai Delkar was a well-known political figure from Dadra and Nagar Haveli and a staunch supporter of tribal rights and regional representation. His political career had been shaped by the support of the tribal people in Silvassa, where he started out as a trade union leader and worked with the labour groups very closely.
In 1989, he found himself in national politics as a winner of the 9th Lok Sabha elections from the Dadra and Nagar Haveli constituency. Within this period of 1989-2009, Delkar emerged as one of the longest-serving Parliament members from the Union Territory, as he won six Lok Sabha elections consecutively. Also, during this time, he was recognised for his habit of constantly bringing up issues of his constituency in Parliament.
Although Delkar lost the election in 2009 and 2014, he did not withdraw from public life and political activities. He had a great comeback when he won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as an Independent candidate and again represented Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the 17th Lok Sabha.
Over the years, Delkar was involved with the Indian National Congress party and continued working for the tribes, the labour force and the developmental issues of the region. In 2021, he died while still serving as a Member of Parliament.
Dada's Delkar memory works are still vivid in 2025 as he is regarded as a top tribal leader and one of the most lasting parliamentary representatives of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
