Chandra Mohan Patowary

Chandra Mohan Patowary was born on 16 October 1955 in Assam; his father was Late Purna Chandra Patowary. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Gauhati University and later became involved in business and public life before entering active politics. His early professional background influenced his interest in trade, commerce, and industrial development.

He entered electoral politics in the 1990s and was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Dharmapur constituency. Over successive terms, he established himself as a prominent BJP leader in Lower Assam and remained active in organisational and legislative roles within the party.

Following the 2016 Assam Assembly election, Patowary became a key member of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government and was appointed Cabinet Minister for Industries & Commerce. In this role, he was associated with initiatives aimed at industrial investment, trade promotion, and infrastructure development in the state.

After the 2021 Assembly election, he was re-elected from Dharmapur and inducted into the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led cabinet, handling portfolios including Environment & Forest and other departments at different stages.

As of 2026, he continues serving as a senior Cabinet Minister in the Government of Assam, contributing to policy implementation and administrative governance.
