Popularly known Hansraj Bhaiya, Hansraj Ahir was born on Nov 11, 1954 in Nanded district of Maharashtra. He is an agriculturist by profession. He is currently a member of the 16th Lok Sabha of India and a BJP member. He is the MoS Home Affairs. He was member of 11th Lok Sabha, 14th Lok Sabha, 15th Lok Sabha. He is credited along with Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar in exposing the coal scam which was a major campaign issue for the BJP in its march to power. The scam also led to Supreme Court ultimately cancelling licenses of several coal blocks. Prime Point Foundation (PPF) has rated him as the best parliamentarian for introduction of 24 private bills out of a total of 288 bills that were introduced as far as the 15th Lok Sabha was concerned. He has been honoured with Sansad Ratna Award in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. He also remained member of many Standing Committees and Parliamentary Committees, such as; Committee on Coal and Steel, Committee on Agriculture, Committee on Privileges, Joint Parliamentary Committee on Wakf and Railway Convention Committee. He was member of Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (MHADA), a government agency to provide low cost housing to the people.

Hansraj Ahir has a keen scientific temper. The leader believes that science & technology should be utilized for the welfare of the people. He has opened a satellite center, jointly run by ICAR and ICMR, in Chandrapur for guidance, counselling and treatment of Sickle Cell patients. He has also helped to open the museum of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Chandrapur so that historical relics from nearby districts could be collected and preserved in the museum. Ahir has also fought for the betterment of the lives of farmers and sought enhanced and adequate compensation for the land to the farmers.
