Afzal Ansari Biography

Afzal Ansari, born to Subhanullah Ansari and Begum Rabia on August 14, 1953, in Yusufpur, District Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, is a distinguished Indian politician. His political career began in 1985 when he was first elected as a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He served in this capacity for five consecutive terms until 2001. In 2004, he was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha, marking his entry into national politics.

From August 2007 to May 2009, Ansari was an active member of several important committees, including the Committee on Chemicals & Fertilisers, the Central Haj Committee of India, and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Railways. He resigned from his position on March 12, 2009, only to return to the Lok Sabha in May 2019, when he was re-elected for a second term. Since September 13, 2019, he has been a member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing. However, his tenure faced a setback on April 29, 2023, when he was disqualified from the Lok Sabha, a disqualification that was later revoked on January 11, 2024, as per a notification from the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Beyond his political life, Ansari is deeply committed to social and community work. He focuses on organising and uplifting the poor and weaker sections of society, making them socially and politically aware. He promotes social and communal harmony through various events such as Holi Milan, Id Milan, Kavi-Sammelans, and Mushairas. He is also a strong advocate for education, especially for girls, and is the founder and manager of M.A. Ansaria Girls Inter College in Yusufpur, Mohammadabad, Ghazipur.

In his personal life, Afzal Ansari finds solace in nature and enjoys wildlife photography, rearing pedigree dogs, and farming using both traditional and modern techniques. He is passionate about water conservation and enjoys sports like cricket, chess, and badminton. He also organises sports tours in rural areas to encourage youth participation in sports.
