Tariq Hameed Karra Biography

Tariq Hameed Karra was born on 28 June 1955 to Abdul Hameed Karra and Kaukab Jabeen in Batmaloo, Srinagar.

He began his political career in 2004, entering the by-election for the Batmaloo constituency, which became vacant after the death of National Conference leader Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah. Over the next decade, Karra climbed the ranks of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), establishing himself as a significant political leader in Kashmir.

In 2014, he achieved a major victory by defeating National Conference stalwart Farooq Abdullah in the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha constituency, securing a seat in the 16th Lok Sabha. However, in September 2016, Karra resigned from the PDP and joined the Indian National Congress (INC) after the PDP decided to ally with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Karra was also a founding member of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party in 1999, serving as its first General Secretary alongside Mufti Mohammed Sayeed as the first President and Mehbooba Mufti and Muzaffar Hussain Baig as the first Vice Presidents.

On 6 September 1980, he married Asifa Tariq Karra, and they have one son and one daughter together. Currently, his net worth stands at Rs 1,48,44,17,570, and there are no criminal cases against him.
