Kirron​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Kher is an actress from India who worked on television and is a Politician as well. She was born on 14 June 1952. On studying English Literature as well as theatre, she went to Panjab University and later became a widely recognized actor and won National Awards. In 2009, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was elected as a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Chandigarh in 2014 and again in 2019.

Besides being a person who is deeply involved in social issues, she also concentrates on women’s welfare and cancer ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌awareness.

Kirron​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Kher was born as Kiran Thakar Singh Sandhu on 14 June 1952 in Bangalore and brought up in Chandigarh. She acquired her education at Panjab University, where she got a Master's degree in English Literature along with a Diploma in Indian Theatre, which helped her to get into the acting profession easily.

She initially started working in the theatre and later appeared in the film Aasra Pyar Da (1983). After a break to raise her family, she went back to acting by doing plays, serials, and films. Among others, her characters in Sardari Begum, Devdas, and Rang De Basanti have won her critical acclaim and a couple of National Film Awards.

Kher was wed to actor Anupam Kher in 1985 and has a son, Sikander Kher, from her previous marriage. Besides her showbiz career, Kirron has been a major supporter of social issues through the Laadli campaign, which is a project against girl children, and other cancer awareness activities.

Politically, Kher made a decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2009 and thus became a full-time politician. She was successful in winning the Chandigarh seat in the Lok Sabha elections held in 2014 and managed to get a second term in 2019. At the Parliament, she has worked with the Home Affairs and the Tourism & Culture Committees, among others, and maintained her interest in cultural and social ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌matters.
