S. Rajendran was born in the Idukki district of Kerala. He began his political journey through grassroots activism and became associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), building his base among plantation workers.
He rose within CPI(M) and emerged as a key leader in the Devikulam region, particularly focusing on labour issues and local development concerns.
Rajendran entered electoral politics and was elected as a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Devikulam constituency in 2011 and was re-elected in 2016, strengthening his political presence in the area.
He later parted ways with CPI(M) following internal differences and eventually joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, marking a significant shift in his political career.
In the 2026 Assembly election, he contested as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and secured 15,032 votes. He was defeated by his nearest rival by 35,558 votes, resulting in a significant loss in the constituency.
