Born on July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana, Rekha Gupta has emerged as a prominent figure in Delhi's political landscape.





Her connection to politics began early, nurtured in a family where the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideologies were a significant influence, setting the stage for her eventual rise in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).





Rekha Gupta's initial foray into politics was marked by her involvement in student leadership at Delhi University. During her tenure as President of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) in 1996-1997, she demonstrated a strong commitment to student welfare and youth empowerment.





Transitioning from student politics, Rekha Gupta ventured into municipal governance by winning the councilor seat from Uttari Pitampura (Ward 54) in 2007 and securing re-election in 2012. Her tenure as a councilor was characterised by her efforts to address local issues and spearhead community development projects. Her administrative prowess was further highlighted by her tenure as a mayor in North Delhi, where she accumulated significant experience in governance.





Rekha Gupta's political trajectory within the BJP has been marked by several key leadership roles, including her position as the General Secretary of the BJP's Delhi state unit and her membership in the National Executive of the BJP. Her political career reached a new pinnacle with her victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly polls, where she decisively defeated AAP candidate Vandana Kumari from the Shalimar Bagh seat by a significant margin of 29,595 votes.





Rekha Gupta has now been appointed as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
