O. J. Janeesh

O. J. Janeesh became active in politics through student and youth-level activities associated with the Congress party. His early political work focused on grassroots mobilisation, public interaction, and organisational activities within local Congress structures in Kerala.

In 2000, he expanded his role in Congress organisational politics through constituency-level activities and participation in public programmes. Over the years, he strengthened his visibility through active involvement in UDF campaigns and local political coordination.

Between 2010 and 2020, Janeesh remained active in Congress organisational affairs and political mobilisation in Kerala. His continued work in public outreach and constituency engagement gradually helped him emerge as a recognised Congress leader within regional political circles.

From 2021 to 2025, he intensified constituency-level political engagement in Kodungallur through welfare activities, local issue-based campaigns, and public interaction programmes. His sustained grassroots presence strengthened his support base ahead of the Assembly election.

In the 2026 Kerala Assembly election, O. J. Janeesh won the Kodungallur constituency with 65,162 votes, securing victory by a margin of 8,308 votes and registering an important electoral win for the Congress-led United Democratic Front.

On 18 May 2026, O. J. Janeesh was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in the new Kerala government following the UDF’s victory in the Assembly election.
