Morarji Desai Biography

Morarji Ranchhodji Desai was the 4th Prime Minister of India from 24 March 1977 to 28 July 1979.
He had played several important roles in government such as Chief Minister of Bombay State, Home Minister, Finance Minister and second Deputy Prime Minister of India.
Interestingly, Desai became the first non-Congress Prime Minister of India. On the other hand, Morarji is also known for his peace activism internationally as he took huge effort to maintain peace between South Asian states, Pakistan and India.
Post India's first nuclear test, he aided to restore friendly relations with China and Pakistan, moreover, vowed to ignore armed conflict including Indo-Pakistani war of 1971.
On 19th May, 1990, he was honoured with the highest civilian award of Pakistan, the Nishan-e-Pakistan.
