Sakina Itoo, a senior JKNC politician, was born in Kulgam, Jammu, and Kashmir on 5 December 1970.
Her initial political career started in 1996 when she successfully contested the Noorabad constituency election and, at 26 years old, became the youngest member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. She lost in 2002 but was appointed to the Legislative Council in 2004 and later won the Assembly election again in 2008.
During her political career, Itoo was entrusted with various important portfolios and also served as Deputy Minister for Education, Minister of Social Welfare and Public Works as well as Minister of Tourism. Besides, in Omar Abdullah's cabinet formed in 2008, she was the only woman minister and hence made an additional portfolio of the Minister for Social Welfare.
In 2025, Sakina Itoo is the President of JKNC South Kashmir unit and the State Secretary of the National Conference, a position from which she continues to advocate for the betterment of women, the reform of the education sector, and the return of J&K statehood.
