Altaf Ahmad Wani, also known as Altaf Kuloo, was born in 1972. He hails from Aishmuqam, Islamabad, and is the only son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, an engineer-turned-politician and businessman with a strong interest in educational development. Ghulam Rasool Wani started his career by founding a private school, Delhi Public School, in South Kashmir.
Altaf began his political journey in 2008, though he did not win his first assembly election that year. He contested on the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) ticket. In 2009, he was appointed as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC).
His political career saw a significant boost when he was elected as the MLA for Pahalgam in the 2014 elections. He secured 25,232 votes, defeating Rafi Ahmad Mir of the JKPDP by a margin of 904 votes.
Altaf Ahmad Wani continues to be an active politician and is contesting the upcoming assembly elections from Pahalgam on the JKNC ticket.
