Gayatri Devi is a veteran politician from Bihar who has been the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Parihar constituency in Sitamarhi district. She is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician and has been an integral part of state politics since 1990. Her journey began through the party’s women’s wing.
Gayatri Devi was raised in Koili Bhraon, Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. She was born to Ram Sagar Yadav and Chandrawati Devi. In 1978, she attended Ram Kishor High School, Chhapra, where she completed her Class 9. She is married to Ram Naresh Prasad Yadav, a former BJP MLA. By and large, she has been involved in the social development and the promotion of the constituency throughout her career.
After getting married to the ex-BJP MLA Ram Naresh Prasad Yadav, she has been in the forefront of the political scene since 1990, and her main theme has been women's empowerment, social welfare, and developmental activities of the constituency.
In 2015, Gayatri Devi won the election for the first time as the Parihar MLA, beating RJD candidate Ramchandra Purve, and in the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections, she defeated RJD’s Ritu Kumar to be elected again. In addition, she is the Chairperson of the Women and Child Development Committee in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, which expresses her interest in the empowerment of women, the welfare of children, and the progress of society.
She has been instrumental in the local infrastructure’s improvement, the education and public health sector’s promotion, and the embedding of the BJP’s roots in her region over the course of her political career. Her biography is a celebration of her commitment to public service, her deep connection with the grassroots, and her continuous support and promotion of the rights of women and children.
In November 2025, Gayetri Devi won the Parihar Assembly seat, receiving 82,644 votes and finishing ahead of independent candidate Ritu Jaiswal by a margin of 17,189 votes, marking a decisive victory in Sitamarhi district.
