Dr. P. Saravanan is a government employee and a homemaker mother in Tamil Nadu. Trained as a medical professional, he established himself in the healthcare sector and went on to found institutions such as Saravana Multispeciality Hospital, reflecting his parallel engagement in medicine and public service.
He began his political journey as the Madurai Rural Unit Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), where he developed grassroots organizational experience. After being denied an electoral ticket, he transitioned to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), marking his entry into mainstream Dravidian politics. He had also been briefly associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) around 2015.
Within the DMK, he rose to become Deputy Leader of the party’s Doctors Wing, strengthening his position as both a medical professional and political functionary. He achieved a key electoral milestone in the 2019 Tamil Nadu Assembly by-election from Thiruparankundram constituency, where he defeated the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) candidate by a margin of 2,936 votes, consolidating his presence in the Madurai region.
In March 2021, after being denied a party ticket again, he exited the DMK and rejoined the BJP. He was subsequently fielded from the Madurai North constituency, a move that triggered internal dissent within the party due to his prior political affiliations.
His tenure in the BJP was short-lived, as he publicly criticised the party’s ideological direction, particularly its approach to religion and minority communities. Following these remarks, he was expelled from the party by state president K. Annamalai, marking another significant shift in his political trajectory.
As of 2026, he continues to remain active in Tamil Nadu politics, engaging in regional political developments and public discourse, particularly in the Madurai region.
